The Law Commission has announced a review of the law relating to Kinship care, where a child is unable to live with their parents and is cared for by extended family or friends. The review will seek to understand how the current law can vary the rights and entitlements for families in this situation. Simplifying legal orders should make it easier for kinship carers to know what they are entitled to.

At the same time, the Department for Education has published its National Kinship Care Strategy on GOV.UK which hopes to achieve good outcomes for children and support to kinship carers.
