As recruitment for new trustees winds down, we are starting another round of recruitment for volunteer advisers. Although we do have specialist caseworkers employed at Citizens Advice, the majority of our clients are seen by a team of well trained and highly dedicated volunteers. Without them we would not be able to do what we do! Are you interested in joining us?
Citizens Advice Bristol has been operating for over 40 years and we are a trusted source of advice for the Bristol community. Our clients come to see us to seek help for a huge range of issues, with the most common being debt, housing, benefits and employment. To find out more about the impact we have on our community, have a look at our Impact reports.
Our clients trust that we will always do our best to help them take a step forward – it could be signposting them to an organisation specialising in their particular issue, walking them through our online advice or referring them to one of our specialist projects. The issues our clients face cause them a great deal of distress and anxiety, with many simply not knowing where else to turn. Our advisers are there to help them by talking through the problem and looking at the options and solutions available.
Before a volunteer adviser meets with a client for the first time they have undergone a great deal of training – our adviser training program consists of one full day of classroom based learning , plus another half day of personal study per week for 5 months. It covers the main areas of advice (debt, benefits, employment, immigration, housing) plus training in the essential skills needed to be an effective adviser. Have a look at our FAQs for more information.
