The Home Office has launched a consultation on proposals to create a mandatory reporting duty on child sexual abuse. This follows a Call for Evidence earlier this year and a report by the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA) which recommended introducing a legal requirement for certain people to report child sexual abuse.

Views are sought particularly on:

  • who should be subject to the duty
  • what protections should reporters have
  • in what limited circumstances the duty may not apply
  • sanctions in respect of the duty

You can find out more about the consultation on GOV.UK. It is open until 30 November 2023.
